The 1st Street Turning Basin was a spur off of the Gowanus Canal that was illegally filled in during the 1950s. As a part of the Gowanus Superfund cleanup, this turning basin will be excavated and restored, connecting the emerging network of green spaces along the Gowanus waterfront.
