6th St. Green Corridor
The 6th Street Green Corridor is a necklace of 11 curbside rain gardens, each of which manage about 3,000 gallons of stormwater, reducing localized flooding and pollution into the Gowanus Canal. They include hardy, native plants that can survive tough city conditions and provide important pollinator habitat. Gowanus Canal Conservancy built these in 2014 with funding from the NYC DEP and EPA, and continues to maintain them. There are more than 13,000 rain gardens across New York City.
